Stand back!

Yes, that's my scrawny little arm, lifting an incredible THREE POUNDS of solid weight! (laughing). As of a couple entries ago I have taken my doctor's advice and started a weight lifting routine. I have never really gotten very far in the past but I'm more determined this time. All the talk about menopause and osteoporosis can be pretty motivating! And the fact that my skin is starting to do this drooping thing is really not cool. I just can't figure out when exactly it started but... I don't like it!!! Health clubs are great but knowing me, I would be much more likely to follow through if I have some tools at home. So I'm starting out slowly, doing some research, and one of the things I happened to find that was intriguing to me was "Body-for-life training demonstrations" (very helpful little animated demonstrations). So far my routine looks something like this:

Sunday-stationery bike
Monday-upper body
Tuesday-stationery bike
Wednesday-lower body
Thursday-stationary bike
Friday-upper body

(alternating upper and lower body every other day)
Saturday-rest

I'm happy to say I survived the first half a week but was pretty useless on Saturday! I'm hoping that will change!!

Diane, you are most tremendous! That is a rockin' picture: I loathe, loathe, loathe weight training!
Any tips?

PS---I got that skin thing happening as well. I look down and see my grandmother's arms!
(I'm becoming wiser...I'm becoming wiser...*laughing*!)

Gee, I feel so supported!! Thanks all.

Neroli, you must know a whole lot more about this than I do! I would just really prefer doing a nice yoga pose and making everything go back into shape... (laughing) ... oh well... I've decided to hire a trainer for a one time session to come to my home and give me the low down on whether or not I need to do anything differently. You know, how long should each session be, how exactly do I breathe, if I should slow down, if I need to move on, ... I have so many questions. I'll be sure to post on it!

Thanks again,
Diane

Diane, good luck, and stick with it! I got a friend who was starting as a personal trainer to help me, on the ball, weights, crunches, a good variety, I even have a bike in my room...but yoga is my true love, and weights didn't work with my shoulders (bursitis)....I keep looking at the bike....at least I walk my dog ;)

Thanks, Jenn. Good advice. I love my bike, and I love doing yoga, too. I've also been hearing about these things that look much more gentle on the body called Exercise Resistance Bands. I'm tempted to purchase some since I hear "resistance" is the key to results.

i'm retired andpumping iron is not my cup of tea. Walking 3 t0 4 miles a day and talking to my neighbors and making friends is good for me because I get to exercise my legs as well as my mouth. When the weather changes then it will be time to do my walking indoors. good luck on your physical fittness routein
