Hormone Saliva Tests

A visit to my holistic MD yesterday gave me an opportunity to see results of a test I had done recently. About a month ago I wanted to check my hormone levels so my doctor gave me this little kit to take home. The task was to collect some saliva (spit into a little tube!), send off the specimen to the lab and wait for the results to be sent back to my doctor. I had the same test done a year ago when I was considerably more stressed out and sleep deprived and the results showed it! So this year, with following instructions for a whole year, I was hoping there would be some significant results. I know I feel better but it's good to see it on paper! Well, lo and behold I did significantly improve. The test measures Dhea, testosterone, estrone, estradiol, estriol, and progesterone. My understanding is that if any one of these is out of balance it can be a noticable difference in how you feel. Last year, my Dhea was down to "1" and it should be between 3 and 10. Supplementing with Pharmaceutical grade Dhea brought it up to a "6." Way cool! My progesterone, last year, was off the charts at over 1000 and it's only supposed to be between 100-300. I followed instructions to drastically cut down on soy and now it's at "136." Yea! The shaded area in the middle of the chart in the photo of my test results is called the "optimal zone." It's where you want to be. The little black box sitting in the optimal zone is me... grinning happily!

Now, she also wants me to get a bone density scan and some blood work to check my thyroid for hyperthyroidism. She also suggested I start a progressive weight lifting program. I'm 5'4" and weigh all of about 100 pounds so this will be fun! (smiling).
So, that's my progress report. My lab work cost about $80 and it was done through
