Super Healing Foods

From one of my favorite websites (Natural News).... Here's some interesting information on Superfoods. Why are they important in menopause? I think the better we eat, the more we support our bodies and the more we tend to all of the aspects of who we are, the easier our menopausal transition will be. Most women assume that hot flashes, mood swings, and vaginal dryness are a necessary part of menopause -- and that all they can do is take estrogen and hope for the best. But according to nutritionist Ann Gittleman, (who wrote Super Nutrition for Menopause) poor eating habits, not hormone levels, are the underlying cause of menopause's unpleasant symptoms.

Everyone these days is looking for the magic pill that will help with weight loss, improve immunity, increase memory, help the heart, or fight off cancer. Unfortunately, there is no such thing. But wouldn't it be exciting to know that these benefits can be achieved through eating superfoods that might be in your kitchen right now? Including these superfoods (foods that have a high nutrient content that have a positive effect on health) in your diet can affect your health today and for years to come.

Beans: inexpensive, full of fiber, high in protein, low in calories, sodium, and fat.

Blueberries: more antioxidants than almost every other fruit and vegetable.

Omega 3: (Fish, specifically coldwater fish) lowers the risk of heart disease, helps memory, immune function, and mood. Look for wild fish versus farmed which have lower levels of mercury. Krill oil and green lipped mussel supplements are good alternatives to eating fish.

Garlic: an antioxidant, antifungal, and antibiotic. Scientists have recently discovered that a compound in garlic acts as the world`s most powerful antioxidant, should be eaten raw.

Walnuts: excellent sources of protein, good fat, and plant sterols. High in fiber, B vitamins, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Other Superfoods to include in your diet:

Spinach, Green Tea, Maca, Bee Pollen, Broccoli Sprouts, and Kale.

I too am really into natural living/healing.
It is so important to rid ourselves of the toxins that surround us.

My Mom is fighting cancer for the second time so I made her her own soap and perfume to keep her away from the stuff she used to use as much as possible.
So far, she is doing well - considering.

I wish I could have 100 acres again to have a "buffer-zone" from the folks who loves to use chemicals like store-bought perfumes and such... .

But, I do what I can and as much as I can.

I believe the body wants to heal itself, but has a tough time doing so when it is smothered with the chemical-soup of today's world.

I stay away from as much as possible and even grow much of my own foods and "medicine" in my organic gardens.

I am joining your blog and will look for more good posts :)

Organically Yours,
Diana
