Dr. Christiane Northrup was one of the guests on Oprah this week. You may know she wrote the book "The Wisdom of Menopause" which has become very popular. I managed to take some notes:1) Make a list of 5 things that make you feel joy and take time to do them. Joy decreases inflammation in the body.
2) Keep blood sugar levels good. Many symptoms are related to roller coaster blood sugar levels. Stay away from simple carbs.
3) No computer/TV before bed (too stimulating). Give yourself an hour of calm before going to bed.
4) Watch your caffeine. One cup of coffee is all it takes for some women to be up all night that night. (Women don't process caffeine the same way men do)
5) Exercise is the "anti-bitch" activity! (Instead of pills, try exercise)
6) Decreased libido may mean something is being shoved under the carpet.
7) Get hormones tested with a saliva test.
8) Give to yourself first. Make yourself a priority.
9) Chest pain = giving to depletion.
10) Menopause is a time when you are in labor with yourself. You are giving birth to yourself. The real you.
11) If there is anything that you have been running away from or hiding from, it will show up in menopause.
12) The body desires pleasure. If we don't look for pleasure in exercise, meditation, or healthy intimacy, we will try to find it in drugs, alcohol, or sugar.
and finally,
13) Smile into your heart. Talk to yourself. Say kind words to yourself. Tell yourself you are enough. Value yourself as much as if you were a two year old child.

love that you took notes cause I missed the call. She is so right on! plus, I am taking quercetin and Adrisin for allergies, related to dizziness/nausea that I was getting from taking another spray Pollinex for allergies. Thought I was having a diabetic attack is was so worrying, waking up dizzy in the middle of the night. Good for you for taking care of your symptoms. Listening in....

Wow! Interesting to hear you say that your symptoms came from a spray for allergies! Quercetin is good stuff. Is adrisin a homeopathic product?
I found you through musemother.
I am younger than many going through menopause. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and had a full hysterectomy last year, at the age of thirty.
So, now I enter menopause and I am surprised at how deeply it affects me. Though not in my fifties with grown or older children (my son is only three), I feel the descent and pull inward, and I am struggling to engage this process with dignity and compassion.
I look forward to hearing from you and will come back often.
Diane, this sounds like what you have been living for some time...at least this is the example that I see you showing us :)
