When I was having my 3 year stint with candida (and the beginnings of interstitial cystitis) it was not a fun time but I learned alot. At one point I was invited to go to a workshop where a woman who had healed her own breast cancer was speaking about the importance of PH balance. I didn’t know much about it and I hadn’t made the connection yet but it intrigued me and I went. Turned out it was really fascinating and made sense to me. Ph balance is more important than I thought. I guess you can think about it this way. Swimming pools, if we are not diligent about keeping track of the PH readings, will start to grow ugly nasty bacteria. So will our bodies. If we feed our bodies nothing but acidic foods and thoughts we will create an acidic environment. Yeast, candida, and even cancer cells change in relationship to their environment.Since I was struggling with candida for so long I decided it would be a good idea to test my PH. I got some PH testing strips and tested my urine and to my horror I couldn’t even see a reading! The lowest reading was 5.0 (a healthy body should show a reading around 6.5 - ultimately 7.3). I couldn’t see a reading at all. I took it over and over. The saliva reading was somewhat better but I compared mine to others and it was significantly lower and more acidic. This blew me away because I juice everyday so I thought I had it covered. Obviously I didn’t have it covered or else I would not have been struggling with candida for so long. I had already changed my diet, I was taking a good probiotic everyday and even using anti-fungals. I didn’t think there was anything else I could do.
Well, I had heard and read about green superfoods like chlorella, spirulina, barley grass, wheat grass, oat grass and how they raise PH levels so I decided to experiment. I began by using chlorella and spirulina and then added others and kept track of my PH. It wasn’t long (a few days) before I started to notice my interstitial cystitis symptoms fading away. I also noticed my candida symptoms becoming less and less noticable!
This was about a year ago and I have continued to do well. So I maintain a regimen of watching my food, taking a probiotic everyday (though occasionally I forget but it doesn’t seem to matter) and I hardly ever seem to need the anti-fungal anymore. I put the green powder in my vegetable juice in the morning and I feel like I’m drinking a glass of “green vitality.” It’s awesome.
It seems, for me, that this has been the missing link to getting control of candida and interstitial cystitis.

Your tips on Candida and the power of green superfoods has been helpful. I have had candida 6 years, vulvodynia 4 years, inflamed bladder 3 years. Premenopause 2 years. Left with no help from convential doctors. Health books have been my only help. I can get rid of Candida but it always comes back. I take natural antifungal and probotics. And yes I have done the Candida diet. With rapid weight loss. To the point of looking anorexic. It has only been since introducing green superfoods that my symptoms of white patches on my tongue, cracked corners of my mouth and when I eat foods with baking soda, (baking soda reacts with acidic vinegar) my tongue doesn't burn anymore. I can only conclude that the more acidic my body was that the baking soda burned when it came in contact with my tongue. It seems changing the PH of my body with green superfoods is the last piece to the puzzle. Thanks for your advice. Is there not one convential doctor on this planet that has had candida?
I'm so glad you're doing better. Isn't it amazing how little conventional doctors know about this stuff???
Hi
I'm 3 years in to the menopause and have suffered from candida on and off for 7 years. I'm going through the die off on yet another strict diet now. It's hard going it alone as others don't understand and as you know, the doctors are hopeless. The yeast overgrowth affected me much worse this time and I'm wondering if it's due to the menopause. I've had muscle cramps and stiffness as well as all the usual ill health. I eat incredibly well and take wheatgrass powder so it doesn't seem to have helped in my case. I'm trying Diatomaceous Earth, Oregano oil and Magnesium salt baths this time and the die off is spectacular. I just hope it does the job soon as my life is on hold.
Hi Mermaid! Thank you for your response! Menopause seems to amplify any kind of issue, doesn't it?! In regards to using wheat grass powder My experience with wheat grass recently has been not nearly as successful as using chlorella and spirulina. Even more interesting has been a suggestion given to me to use Pectacol C. I understand it is used by cancer patients to keep them detoxified enough to prevent cancer cells from spreading (though anyone can take it). It's modified citrus pectin. I've noticed that it is very very gentle. Olive leaf extract is also very good when you need to kill yeast but pectacol C is a long term gentle maintainence supplement that helps keep you detoxified. Yes, it's very hard going it alone. Keep your sugar intake (and carbs) very low. I need some complex carbs like buckwheat groats, millet, quinoa... but some people need to stay away from grains all together. I think I would die! haha! I haven't tried magnesium salt baths but I've been tempted to. I think I'll give it a shot.
